Amir, a doctoral student in our Hispanic Language &amp; Literatures program, successfully defended his dissertation today.<\/p>\n<p>Amir&#8217;s dissertation is titled <em>On the Edge:\u00a0 Liminal Spaces in the Novels of Benito P\u00e9rez Gald\u00f3s.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>From Amir&#8217;s abstract:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Liminal spaces in Benito P\u00e9rez Gald\u00f3s\u2019s novels offer profound insights into the society, characters, and practices of representation in his art of fiction. Through examining settings that lie at the intersection between public and private, domestic and commercial, interior and exterior, such as balconies, display windows, patios, and corridors, this study aims to reveal previously unexplored aspects of Gald\u00f3s\u2019s work.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congratulations to Amir Effat!
