Research and Teaching
Amina Shabani earned her PhD in Hispanic Literatures from Indiana University-Bloomington. Prior to joining Boston University, Dr. Shabani worked at IU-Bloomington and Butler University where she taught Spanish and occasionally French. Her teaching and research interests include murals as community narratives, Afro-Latin American literatures by women, African, Caribbean, US Latinx and Lusophone literatures.
Born in Belgium and raised in several African countries, Shabani attributes her passion for foreign languages to her residence in multiple cultural contexts. These experiences allowed her to develop fluency in several languages.
In her free time, she enjoys knitting, playing piano and gardening.
