BU Initiatives on Cities Summer Internship Opportunity for Undergraduate Students

BU Initiative on Cities has announced three full-time paid internships for undergraduate students this summer working in Boston’s City Hall offered through the Boston University Initiative on Cities (IOC). Each of the internships offer a wide range of opportunities for students of all majors, experiences, skill sets, and backgrounds to gain experience in a professional and interactive setting. Interns will work 35 hours weekly in Boston’s City Hall in one of the below three roles. All interns will receive housing support in addition to being paid full-time. Internships offered this summer include:

  • Equity & Inclusion Cabinet [Free housing in partnership with the Howard Thurman Center for Common Ground]: The intern will contribute to the advancement of Boston’s racial equity policy priorities, foster community engagement efforts, and support data-driven policy recommendations. This work will include research, data gathering from the community, stakeholder engagement, and policy writing.

  • Office of Climate Resilience [Housing stipend included]: This intern will spend the summer working to support the City of Boston’s resiliency efforts. This year, the intern will work on communications and graphic design to support the office’s work adapting and preparing for the impacts of climate change.

  • Planning Advisory Council [Housing stipend included]: This new undergraduate summer internship will award one BU undergraduate student the opportunity to spend the summer working at Boston City Hall with the Planning Advisory Council. This dynamic role will touch on many areas of government and is a good fit for a student who is eager to learn about how local government can work more effectively across policy and implementation silos to address challenges and pursue equity in the built environment.
