American Military History or National Security

All Navy and Marine Option midshipmen are required to complete one course in American Military History or National Security Policy.  The recommended course to meet this requirement for all Boston University, Boston College, and Northeastern University midshipmen  is Boston University’s CAS HI284 History of War, which can be combined with our NS104 course.  See your adviser for any other requests.

Cultural/Regional Studies Requirement

All Navy and Nurse Option midshipmen are required to complete a course that focuses on non-western countries.  These courses must have a cultural emphasis on regions of interest to the Navy. This academic requirement is designed to expand our future officer corps’ awareness, knowledge, and sensitivity to world cultures and peoples. Foreign language courses that do not provide instruction on culture are insufficient to meet this requirement.  See your adviser to request approval of the specific course you would like to take.  The following courses have been approved in the past:
