{"id":2716,"date":"2021-02-12T10:50:37","date_gmt":"2021-02-12T15:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/riscs\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=2716"},"modified":"2021-02-12T14:04:34","modified_gmt":"2021-02-12T19:04:34","slug":"david-starobinski","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/riscs\/profile\/david-starobinski\/","title":{"rendered":"David Starobinski"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>Professor, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cs\/profiles\/david-starobinski\/\">Electrical &amp; Computer Engineering and Systems Engineering<\/a><span>, ENG<\/span><\/p>\n<p>David Starobinski is a Faculty Affiliate of the CRI Lab at the Hariri Institute for Computing and is a\u00a0<span>Professor of\u00a0<\/span>Electrical and Computer Engineering<span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Systems Engineering<span>\u00a0at BU<\/span><span>, with an affiliated appointment in the\u00a0<\/span>Department of Computer Science<span>. He is also a Faculty Fellow at the\u00a0<\/span>U.S. DoT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center<span>. He received B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees, all in\u00a0<\/span>Electrical Engineering<span>, from the\u00a0<\/span>Technion<span>-Israel Institute of Technology, in 1993, 1996 and 1999, respectively.\u00a0 In 1996, he was an intern at the research laboratories of\u00a0<\/span>Sun Microsystems Corp.<span>, Mountain View, California. During the academic year 1999-2000, he was a visiting post-doctoral researcher in the\u00a0<\/span>EECS department<span>\u00a0at\u00a0<\/span>UC Berkeley<span>, and during 2007-2008 he was an invited professor at the\u00a0<\/span>School of Computer and Communication Sciences<span>\u00a0at\u00a0<\/span>EPFL\u00a0<span>(Swiss Institute of Technology in Lausanne). \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><\/span><br \/>\n<span>Starobinski received an<\/span><span>\u00a0NSF CAREER award and a\u00a0<\/span>US Department of Energy (DOE)<span>\u00a0Early Career award for his work on quality of service engineering and network modeling. He also received a BU ECE Faculty award for outstanding teaching performance, a fellowship for prospective researchers from the\u00a0<\/span>Swiss National Foundation,<span>\u00a0and awards from the Gutwirth Foundation and\u00a0<\/span>Intel Corp.<span>\u00a0for excellence in graduate studies. He won best paper awards at the WiOpt 2010 and IEEE CNS 2016 conferences. He was on the Editorial Board of the\u00a0<\/span>IEEE\/ACM Transactions on Networking<span>.
