Staff Spotlight: Zach Lane
Meet Zach Lane, Reservations & Events Specialist!
Tell us about yourself.
“I am a recent graduate of Endicott College with a degree in business entrepreneurship. I was born and raised in Vermont before moving to Massachusetts for college and now finally I live right in Boston. I began my career working in events at Boston College before making the switch to join the Events & Conferences team here at Boston University.”
What is your area of expertise?
“I manage all requests for outdoor events, so I know what can and can’t work in our many outdoor event locations such as BU Beach, COM Lawn, and GSU Plaza. I work closely with the City of Boston to make sure all outdoor events are properly licensed. I also have primary responsibility for booking events in our locations located in the Photonics Center.”
What is your favorite thing about working at BU?
“My favorite thing about working at BU is the culture and atmosphere. I am still relatively new to BU but taking the T into work every day to a constantly bustling campus makes sure that each day is interesting. Working on a campus has always appealed to me because of the seemingly endless restaurants, shows, and sporting events that are all just a quick walk away.”
A Thank You from an Appreciative Colleague
“A couple of weeks ago I was in crisis mode trying to find a room… and emailed quite a few times with Zach, he was super helpful and friendly. He was a super pro, answering emails very quickly and even jumping on a call with me. He took time out of his busy day to make sense of my mess without making me feel like I was a pain!! I really appreciate his support. In a place like BU, so big it can feel impersonal at times, I’m glad I know I can count on Zach…for all my event needs.”
What do you like to do outside of work?
“I like to spend my time outside of work by playing tennis, listening to live music, and going to watch the Red Sox at Fenway Park. I love living in Boston but also enjoy getting back to my Vermont roots and getting out of the city to go hiking, camping, and skiing.”
Tell us a fun fact about you!
“I have been playing the saxophone since I was 9 years old and played in multiple bands throughout high school.”
