{"id":41354,"date":"2022-12-08T14:37:55","date_gmt":"2022-12-08T19:37:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/?p=41354"},"modified":"2023-03-03T11:31:29","modified_gmt":"2023-03-03T16:31:29","slug":"nih-data-management-sharing-plan-changes-to-policy-effective-1-25-23","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/2022\/12\/08\/nih-data-management-sharing-plan-changes-to-policy-effective-1-25-23\/","title":{"rendered":"NIH Data Management &#038; Sharing Plan \u2013 Changes to Policy effective 1\/25\/23"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Institutes of Health (NIH) issued its final NIH Policy for Data Management and Sharing (DMS Policy) to promote the management and sharing of scientific data generated from NIH-funded or conducted research.\u00a0 The new policy applies to applications with receipt dates on\/after January 25, 2023.\u00a0 In order to provide guidelines and resources for our research community and we created a \u2018<strong>Research Data Management and Sharing Working Group\u2019<\/strong>, compiled of members from BMC, BUMC, and the Charles River campus, from areas that include information technology, research compliance, and the libraries.\u00a0 This working group was charged with establishing best practices and identifying existing support and programs for data-producing researchers.<\/p>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/grants.nih.gov\/grants\/guide\/notice-files\/NOT-OD-21-013.html\" class=\"button button-base\">New NIH Policy on Data Management and Sharing \u2013 NOT-OD-21-013<\/a>\n<p>The group is co-chaired by representatives at BU from the University Libraries, Information Services &amp; Technology (IS&amp;T), and the Office of Research:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ashley Jester, Associate University Librarian for Research &amp; Learning, BU Libraries<\/li>\n<li>Wayne Gilmore, Director of Research Computing, BU Information Services &amp; Technology<\/li>\n<li>Suzanne Rocha, Associate Director, BU Sponsored Programs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"important notice\"><div class=\"important-wrap\"><p> <b>Applications with receipt dates on\/after January 25, 2023<\/b> must contain a Data Management & Sharing Plan (DMSP)  <\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>A DMSP\u00a0includes the following information:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Data type<\/li>\n<li>Related tools, software and\/or code<\/li>\n<li>Standards<\/li>\n<li>Data preservation, access, and associated timelines<\/li>\n<li>Access, distribution or reuse considerations<\/li>\n<li>Oversight of data management and sharing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The working group has complied <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/researchsupport\/compliance\/bu-resources-for-nih-data-management-sharing\/\">Data Management and Sharing Materials<\/a> that are now hosted on the Research Support website, as well as a <a href=\"https:\/\/library.bu.edu\/NIH_DMS\">comprehensive guide<\/a> to help faculty understand the requirements of the new policy for data management plans, the requirements related to data sharing and how to develop budgets related to these requirements. Questions related to these new requirements can be submitted via this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/researchsupport\/compliance\/bu-resources-for-nih-data-management-sharing\/data-management-sharing-policy-feedback-on-guidance-for-bu-researchers\/\">online form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The working group will be hosting a virtual information session on January 12, 2023 from 11:00am-12:00pm.
