We will continue to monitor the situation and post new and relevant information on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/federal-funding-and-regulations-update-hub\/\">2025 Administration Transition Information &amp; Resources Hub <\/a>as the reopening progresses. Please reach out to <a href=\"mailto:ospera@bu.edu\">Sponsored Programs<\/a> with any questions.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"boston-university-guidance\">Boston University Guidance<\/h2>\n<p>The federal government officially shut down after midnight on September 30, 2025. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, we encourage BU research teams with federal funding to review the potential impacts of the shutdown, as described below.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"font-weight: 400;\" id=\"shutdown-impacts-and-considerations\"><span data-ogsc=\"black\"><strong>Shutdown Impacts and Considerations<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li data-ogsc=\"black\"><strong>Adhere to posted guidelines for grant submissions or nominations:<\/strong>&nbsp;Faculty should follow posted guidelines and deadlines for grant applications. In the past, some agencies have extended proposal deadlines after the&nbsp;government&nbsp;reopens. <span data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Y<\/span>ou should continue to submit proposals as long as federal systems remain operational.<\/li>\n<li data-ogsc=\"black\">&nbsp;<strong>Prepare for award announcements to be delayed:<\/strong>&nbsp;Faculty waiting on award announcements for already submitted proposals should know that a&nbsp;government&nbsp;shutdown&nbsp;may lead to delays in award announcements. Past&nbsp;government&nbsp;shutdowns have led to delays of several weeks to months due to the backlog of work at federal agencies and the difficulty of rescheduling review panels once the&nbsp;government&nbsp;reopens. Similarly, expected new grant programs will be delayed as the federal&nbsp;government&nbsp;is not allowed to establish new grant programs during a&nbsp;government&nbsp;shutdown.<\/li>\n<li data-ogsc=\"black\"><strong>Stay up-to-date:<\/strong> <span data-ogsc=\"rgb(0, 0, 0)\">COGR <\/span>has created a <span data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\"><u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cogr.edu\/considerations-federal-government-shutdown\" data-outlook-id=\"bf4b10c9-8107-4c6e-b6e4-f39e164b9837\" data-ogsc=\"rgb(70, 120, 134)\">website<\/a><\/u><\/span>&nbsp;of resources consolidating information.
