{"id":2289,"date":"2016-07-22T17:51:19","date_gmt":"2016-07-22T21:51:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/?post_type=forms-policies&#038;p=2289"},"modified":"2016-09-22T10:07:02","modified_gmt":"2016-09-22T14:07:02","slug":"safe-work-practices","status":"publish","type":"forms-policies","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/forms-policies\/safe-work-practices\/","title":{"rendered":"Safe Work Practices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following safe work practices should be followed when working in the laboratory:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Read and become familiar with the Chemical Hygiene Plan and any Standard Operating Procedures developed specifically for the laboratory prior to working in the laboratory.<\/li>\n<li>Become familiar with the location and use of emergency equipment and facilities, such as:\n<ol>\n<li>eyewash and safety showers,<\/li>\n<li>fire extinguishers,<\/li>\n<li>fire blankets, if applicable;<\/li>\n<li>fire alarm pull stations,<\/li>\n<li>emergency exits, and<\/li>\n<li>chemical spill equipment.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Never eat, drink, smoke, chew gum, apply cosmetics, or manipulate contact lenses in the laboratory.<\/li>\n<li>Never leave exposed sharps, micropipettes, or broken glass on the bench or in washing facilities.<\/li>\n<li>Keep chemical containers closed unless actively in use.<\/li>\n<li>Clearly label all containers of any substance. The label must include, at a minimum, the complete chemical name of the substance. If possible, it should also include the concentration and any hazards of the substance.<\/li>\n<li>Remove Personal Protective Equipment (gloves, lab coats, aprons, protective foot and headgear) before leaving the laboratory.<\/li>\n<li>Discard, decontaminate, clean, or sanitize personal protective equipment on a regular basis.<\/li>\n<li>Always wash hands after removing gloves before leaving the laboratory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"template":"","form_policy_kind":[147],"classes":"post-2289 forms-policies type-forms-policies status-publish hentry fp-type-compliance stage-conducting-research tags-laboratory-safety form_policy_kind-policy","modified_text":"September 22, 2016","file_type":"WEB","excerpt":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/forms-policies\/2289"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/forms-policies"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/forms-policies"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2289"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"form_policy_kind","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/form_policy_kind?post=2289"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
