Learning how the brain, mind, and nervous system work

Researchers at Boston University perform cutting-edge experimental and computational studies addressing how neural circuits mediate behavior, using techniques that include analysis of molecular pathways and neuronal membrane currents; large-scale electrophysiological recording and calcium imaging of populations of neurons and optogenetic manipulations of circuit activity during behavior; and neuroimaging of activity in different brain regions during cognitive function. These studies are relevant to understanding alterations in brain function associated with disorders including autism, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.
