Is your research group vaccinated? Here’s what you need to know.
As more members of BU’s research community are receiving the vaccine, we’re beginning to hear questions about how vaccinations will affect BU’s COVID guidelines for research. The latest information is below. We will update this page if/when the guidance changes.
Will lab occupancy limits or other guidelines change once research personnel have been vaccinated?
The answer, for now, is that there are are no changes to BU’s COVID guidelines for research based on vaccination status. All lab groups should maintain social distancing practices, testing and screening, wearing masks, and adhering to the occupancy levels set in their research recovery plan until further notice.
From President Brown’s March 12 letter to the BU community:
“For the near term, our judgment is that we should not alter our plans for campus operations for either this spring or summer. Although CDC guidance indicates that vaccinated individuals can enjoy more freedom of movement, forgo being quarantined when they experience a close contact with an infected individual, and can also forgo mask wearing and social distancing in small settings, we are maintaining the same public health protocols for everyone on our campuses that we have employed all year, including community testing and daily health screening. We are doing this out of an abundance of caution until we know definitively the potential for viral transmission by vaccinated individuals who may become infected but who are otherwise asymptomatic.”
