She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Religion at Boston University and teaches classes on Buddhism and Asian religions. She earned her Ph.D. in Religious Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and M.A. in Buddhist Studies from the University of<span>\u00a0<\/span><span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markfggu6wzyy\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">To<\/span>ronto.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Her forthcoming book investigates Buddhism\u2019s roles within and beyond the competing nation and empire-building projects that<span>\u00a0<\/span><span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markfggu6wzyy\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">to<\/span>ok place in early 20th century Inner Mongolia and Manchuria, regions sandwiched between the expansionist ambitions of Republican China, the Japanese Empire, and the Soviet Union. Her research has been supported by the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), Zeit-Stiftung Bucerius, the Mongolia Foundation, the Chiang Ching-Kuo Foundation, and the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation, amongst others.<\/p>\n<p>Daigengna is a host for the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a title=\"https:\/\/newbooksnetwork.com\/category\/peoples-places\/east-asian-studies\" id=\"OWA12c15f5b-84ba-45d4-d132-3613d3d520ce\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/newbooksnetwork.com\/category\/peoples-places\/east-asian-studies\" data-linkindex=\"0\">New Books in East Asian Studies Channel<\/a>, a channel on the New Books Network. In addition<span>\u00a0<\/span><span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markfggu6wzyy\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">to<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>the study of religion, Daigengna is also interested in the study of religion in game media. She is one of the founders of the<span>\u00a0<\/span><a title=\"https:\/\/www.gamingplusproject.com\/\" id=\"OWAa99ff298-f406-1282-eee9-384826d8de3e\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gamingplusproject.com\/\" data-linkindex=\"1\">GAMING+ Project<\/a>, an online resource for game studies, along with Kaitlyn Ugoretz and Keita Moore.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spring 2026 Courses<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<div data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">RN 103: Religions of Asia<\/div>\n<div>Description: Study of Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, Confucianism, and Shinto. Focus on the world view of each tradition and the historical development of that world view. Effective Fall 2023, this course fulfills a single unit in each of the following BU Hub areas: Global Citizenship and Intercultural Literacy, Aesthetic Exploration, Teamwork\/Collaboration.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nRN 403: Zen Buddhism<br \/>\nDescription: Explores Zen thought and practice across various Asian and global Buddhist traditions through texts and material culture, focusing on debates on metaphysics, the mind, and knowledge as applied<span>\u00a0<\/span><span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markfggu6wzyy\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">to<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span>meditation, ethics, aesthetics, militarism, environmentalism, and aspects of daily life. Effective<span>\u00a0<\/span><span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markh5jp5kg4n\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Spring<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><span data-markjs=\"true\" class=\"markj2nvgf087\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">2026<\/span>, this course fulfills a single requirement in each of the following BU HUB areas: Creativity\/Innovation, Philosophical Inquiry and Life&#8217;s Meanings, Writing-Intensive Course.
