Professor Kecia Ali, BU Alum Lolo Serrano (CAS ’21) publish paper on sexism
Kecia Ali, professor of religion and islamic studies, along with BU alum Lolo Serrano (CAS’21) published a paper on sexism in academic book reviews. Using mixed quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze fifteen years of book reviews in the flagship religious studies journal, they demonstrate gender bias in whose books get reviewed and by whom; how authors are described; and whose work and ideas are cited in reviews. The paper appears in the Journal of the American Academy of Religion.
