{"id":903,"date":"2014-09-25T10:11:54","date_gmt":"2014-09-25T14:11:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/?page_id=903"},"modified":"2026-02-10T15:06:51","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T20:06:51","slug":"registration","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/registration\/","title":{"rendered":"Registration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students currently enrolled in a Boston University degree program are encouraged to check with their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/registration\/contact-info\/\">school\/college<\/a> for specific registration requirements. \u00a0Non-degree students will follow Metropolitan College&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/admissions\/register\/current-student\/\" title=\"guidelines for registration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">guide for registration<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Students who have taken a leave or had a period of absence from Boston University while pursuing a degree program will contact their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/registration\/contact-info\/\">school\/college&#8217;s advising office<\/a> for assistance with returning to the University.<\/p>\n<p>Students wishing to return after previously completing a degree at Boston University will retain their original BU ID and follow Metropolitan College&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/admissions\/register\/current-student\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">guide for registration<\/a>; students will continue as non-degree seeking until they&#8217;ve applied and been accepted into a degree program.<\/p>\n<p>BU Employees seeking to participate in Boston University&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hr\/learningbu\/tuition-remission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tuition Remission<\/a>\u00a0benefit must register for course(s) before applying for this benefit through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/buworks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BUworks Central<\/a>; contact <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Human Resources<\/a>\u00a0for information on this and other employee resources.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Fall 2026 Registration<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Confirm your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/calendars\/registration\/\" title=\"Registration Dates &amp; Times\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">registration start date and time<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Meet with your academic advisor (if your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/registration\/contact-info\/\">school\/college<\/a> requires advising or\u00a0restricts online registration)<\/li>\n<li>Log in to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/mybu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MyBU Student<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0confirm you have met all\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/registration\/requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">requirements for registration<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Use the Class Search, Schedule Builder, and Shopping Cart to review classes and start planning your schedule<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/students\/#planner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><\/a> before your registration date\/time!<\/li>\n<li>Browse through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/welcome\/\" title=\"Welcome to the Office of the University Registrar (draft)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Registrar&#8217;s website<\/a>\u00a0to read important information on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/registration\/financial-obligation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University&#8217;s Legal Notice on student financial obligation<\/a>, <a href=\"#adding-dropping\">adding\/dropping classes<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/registration\/withdrawals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">withdrawals and leaves of absence<\/a>, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">New Students<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>The process for registration for students looking to take classes for the first time at Boston University is dependent on a variety of factors, such as which specific course you\u2019re interested in taking.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Recently Accepted Into a Degree Program:<\/span><\/strong> Students should contact the advising office at their specific <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/registration\/contact-info\/\">school\/college<\/a> for further details pertaining to their initial registration. Recently accepted undergraduate students will typically register during their assigned orientation session with the assistance of an advisor from their specific program.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Non-Degree Students Looking to Take Undergraduate Level Courses (i.e. courses under 600 level): <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If a student is looking to take a Metropolitan College undergraduate level course, they can follow Metropolitan College\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/admissions\/register\/new-student\/\">guide for registration<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>New non-degree students looking to take an undergraduate level course within any other school\/college on campus will also need to go through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/contact\/\">Metropolitan College\u2019s Undergraduate Student Services Office<\/a> for assistance with registration. For example, if a student is interested in taking CAS BI 300 level course as a non-degree seeking student, they would go through Metropolitan College\u2019s Undergraduate Student Services Office for their initial registration with the University.\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Please note, if a course is either full or reserved for specific students at the time when you&#8217;re attempting to register as a non-degree student, you may need to obtain further approval from the professor directly to enroll in the course.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Non-Degree Students Looking to Take Graduate Level Courses (i.e. courses 600 level or higher):<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If a student is interested in taking a Metropolitan College Graduate Program course as a non-degree student, i.e. without having applied or been accepted into the program,\u00a0<span>they can follow Metropolitan College\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/admissions\/register\/new-student\/\">guide for registration<\/a><span>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Please note, if a course is either full or reserved for specific students at the time when you&#8217;re attempting to register as a non-degree student, you\u00a0will need to obtain approval directly from the department within <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/met\/contact\/\">Metropolitan College<\/a> that is offering the course.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If a student is interested in enrolling in a graduate level class with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the student should complete a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/files\/2015\/02\/Registration-Form.pdf\">registration form<\/a>, obtain the professor\u2019s signature of approval on the form itself and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/students\/graduate\/grs-forms-policies-procedures\/\">Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences Student Services Office<\/a> stamped approval on the form and then turn that form into the Office of the University Registrar. This form can be turned into FirstPoint at 881 Commonwealth Avenue, 2<sup>nd<\/sup> Floor, emailed to <a href=\"mailto:Registrar@bu.edu\">Registrar@bu.edu<\/a>, or faxed directly to 617-353-1689 after obtaining the required signatures and stamped approval.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If a student is interested in enrolling in a graduate level course with any other school\/college on campus, excluding the Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences, students should contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/registration\/contact-info\/\">school\/college\u2019s general student services office<\/a> directly to inquire about becoming a non-degree student within that specific school\/college.
