If no such number is available, the registrar may give permission to reassign the number that has not been used for the longest time. This is to prevent the same course number from appearing twice on a student&#8217;s record representing two different courses. Minor editorial changes in title or description do not constitute re-assignment of a course number. &#8220;Topics&#8221; and other such courses that may be repeated for credit with a change in topic are not subject to this requirement. In order to assure compliance, the Office of the University Registrar will manage the data entry of course inventory information in the University Information System.<br \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Enrollment Restrictions<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #007799;\"><strong>Closing a Section<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>By closing a section, students are prevented from registering for a class section using WebReg on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Link<\/a>\u00a0or in person without written approval from the instructor or department. Scheduling administrators may close a section\u00a0in UIS by changing the CC21 &#8220;Status&#8221; from ACTV to CLOS at any point in the scheduling cycle. To re-open a closed section, similarly replace CLOS with ACTV in CC21.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inhibits online registration via WebReg, even if seats are available<\/li>\n<li>Students may be manually registered by a scheduling administrator (RG31 only) or the Registrar&#8217;s Office after acquiring a signature from the instructor or department<\/li>\n<li>Close a section before registration begins to force enrollment in other class sections first<\/li>\n<li>Close a section after registration begins to prevent additional students from registering<\/li>\n<li>Behaves similarly to WebReg restriction except:\n<ul>\n<li>WebReg Restrict will &#8220;rollover&#8221; from semester to semester while a Closed Status will not &#8220;rollover&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #007799;\"><strong>WebReg Restrict<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Prevents\u00a0all\u00a0students from registering for a class section using WebReg on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Link<\/a>. Scheduling administrators may WebReg Restrict a section in CC21 at any point in the scheduling cycle.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Requires all students to register &#8220;in person&#8221; using paper registration forms<\/li>\n<li>Students may be manually registered by a scheduling administrator (RG30 or RG31) or the Registrar&#8217;s Office (no signature required)<\/li>\n<li>Combine with\u00a0<a href=\"#permission\">Permission Required<\/a>\u00a0code to require a signature from the instructor or department before a\u00a0student is manually registered<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #007799;\"><strong>Permission Required<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Prevents students that are not matriculated into the school or college from registering for a class section using WebReg on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Link<\/a>\u00a0or in person without written approval from the instructor or department. Matriculated students may &#8220;override&#8221; the code and register normally via WebReg. Scheduling Administrators may add or remove the two-letter code in the &#8220;Permission Req.&#8221; field via CC21 at any point in the scheduling cycle.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two digit code is determined by the School, College, or department<\/li>\n<li>Schools, Colleges, or specific departments may opt to prevent all students (including their matriculated students) the ability to register for a &#8216;permission required&#8217; class. Contact the\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:schedule@bu.edu\">Registrar&#8217;s Office<\/a>\u00a0for more information.<\/li>\n<li>Students with signed Registration forms may be manually registered into a class section by an enrollment administrator (RG30 or RG31) or the Registrar&#8217;s Office<\/li>\n<li>Behaves similarly to\u00a0<a href=\"#section\">Closing a Section<\/a>\u00a0except:\n<ul>\n<li>Permission Required code will &#8220;rollover&#8221; from semester to semester while the Closed Status will not &#8220;rollover&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #007799;\"><strong>Reserved Seating<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Reserves some or all of the seats in a class section for specific students based on criteria such as class year or major. Students who do not meet the criteria will be unable to register for the class section using WebReg on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Link<\/a>. Administrators cannot use RG30 to register students who do not meet the reserved seating criteria in a class section. Academic Schedulers may modify seating reservations at any point in the scheduling cycle using CC21 functionality. Reserved seats are also visible in CC07 by typing an &#8216;R&#8217; next to the class section and hitting &#8216;Enter&#8217; twice.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Seats may be reserved using any combination of the following codes:\n<ul>\n<li>College Code<\/li>\n<li>Program Code\u00a0(2 digit code representing BA, MA, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Hegis\u00a0(4 digit code representing Major\/Minor)<\/li>\n<li>Hegis Type\u00a0(i.e., A = Major)<\/li>\n<li>Class Year\u00a0(U1, U2, G1, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Continuation Code\u00a0(i.e., T = Transfer Student)<\/li>\n<li>Certification Code\u00a0(i.e., 1 = Full Time)<\/li>\n<li>Location Code<\/li>\n<li>Misc Code<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Blocked students may be manually registered by the Registrar&#8217;s Office or an enrollment administrator (RG31 only) after obtaining a signed Registration form from the instructor or department<\/li>\n<li>Expiration dates may also be tied to reserved seats. Students who do not meet the reserved seats criteria will be unable to register for the class section using WebReg on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Link<\/a>\u00a0and administrators using RG30 will not be able to override the reserved seats until the expiration date. Administrators may suppress a class section in CC21 until the\u00a0scheduling deadline by entering an &#8216;S&#8217; in the &#8220;Print Suppress&#8221; field. After the deadline, submit an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/reg\/schedules\/class-schedule\/protected\/enrollment.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Enrollment Change<\/a>\u00a0form to add or remove the code.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students may still register online for the section using WebReg on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Link<\/a>\u00a0by manually entering the entire course number and section code<\/li>\n<li>The class section will appear on an individual student&#8217;s schedule once they are registered in the class, even though the section remains suppressed on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/studentlink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Link<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Combine with\u00a0<a href=\"#webreg\">WebReg Restriction<\/a>\u00a0to prevent students from registering online<\/li>\n<li>Combine with\u00a0<a href=\"#permission\">Permission Required<\/a>\u00a0code to require a signature from the instructor or department before a\u00a0student is manually registered<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h4 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Dean's Approval<\/h4><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>The scheduling cycle is fundamentally revolved about the Scheduling Deadline. Prior to the Deadline, Academic Schedulers have full access to their courses in UIS and 25Live, in order to facilitate course planning. After the Deadline, this access is limited as spaces are assigned and schedules are publically posted to the Links. As a result, Academic Schedulers must submit post-Deadline changes through forms to be processed by the OUR Schedules Department. Depending on what class element is changing, forms may require approval by the department or college&#8217;s Dean, particularly those of high student impact.
