As an undergraduate anthropology major at Tulane University, Savi Bailey thought putting a lot of skeletons in the closet would be her life\u2019s work. But, on a college dig in Transylvania, she realized that the health of live humans was her true passion. \u201cI liked the science and health aspect of anthropology,\u201d she says, \u201cbut I didn\u2019t feel like I could make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After working in health education and on a BU-funded medicine adherence study in Texas, Savi began looking at MBA and MPH dual-degree programs. BU stood out. \u201cI knew an MBA would allow me to have an impact on public health, but I\u2019d never taken a business course. Through prospective student events, I saw that BU was focused on a diversity of backgrounds. That appealed to me because I was concerned that with a non-quantitative and non-business background, it would be hard to fit in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At BU, Savi was welcomed into a community of scholars and students who \u201clove debating things\u201d and are committed to making a difference. \u201cFinance, accounting and strategy all relate to how we work and operate in any industry,\u201d Savi says. \u201cBecause I have both degrees, I know how to be more realistic about mission-driven priorities when it comes to money. What I didn\u2019t quite comprehend before coming to BU was how much business school provides life skills that we should all learn at an earlier age.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Savi\u2019s enthusiasm extended to co-chairing the school\u2019s Health and Life Sciences Conference for two years and to serving as president of Cohort Cup, which organizes social events because, as Savi says, \u201cthis program is so rigorous and busy and it\u2019s hard to pull yourself out of the school mindset and remember that there is a city around you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As she looks to the future, Savi is excited about the job she\u2019s already landed with CVS as an advisor in the pharmacy growth department\u2014a position she got thanks to a BU internship with the company. \u201cThis job is a perfect merger of my passions for healthcare in medication adherence and business management,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd what I really like about the MBA and MPH, is that if I ever want to leave the healthcare world, having an MBA is incredibly valuable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
