Jeff Miller has been a Professor of Operations and Technology Management at Boston University since 1981. He also taught at Purdue University’s Krannert School from 1970-1973, where he also earned his Ph.D. in Industrial Administration, and at the Harvard Business School from 1973-81. He was a Visiting Professor at Stanford Business School in 1985-6 and has also visited and taught in executive programs at Duke, Penn State, INSEAD (France), Waseda University (Tokyo), Yonsei University (Seoul), and many other international schools. He has been an active business consultant and has served as a director of Rath and Strong, and the American Borate and Active Minerals Corporations. Before entering academia, he worked in operations and marketing for the Dow Chemical Company. At Boston University, Miller founded the Manufacturing Roundtable in 1981 and served as this research center’s Director until 1989. He founded and directed the Center for Team Learning from its inception in 1995 until 2007. He also served as Chair of the Operations Management department and as the Associate Dean of the School of Management. He has written numerous articles on operations management and strategy and team learning, and five books, including Benchmarking Global Manufacturing, and The American Edge. He is currently working on a new version of his Team Learning Assistant software, which has been used in over 100 business and engineering schools in the US and Canada. Jeff is a Fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute, and was a recipient of the APEMBA best teacher award in 2005. In 2004, Purdue University’s Krannert School honored him with the John Day Alumni Achievement Award for his contributions to higher education.
