QUESTROM PhD STUDENT Receives Prestigious Award

Carly Burd, a 3rd year PhD student at Boston University Questrom School of Business, received the Edmund Outslay Outstanding Paper Award for her presentation at the Doctoral Consortium of the University of Illinois Symposium on Tax Research (sponsored by Deloitte Tax LLP). The award honors the late Ed Outslay, who was a dear colleague and mentor to many in the tax research community.

The paper, “Does the story matter? Putting financial statement numbers in context using XBRL data,” co-authored with Elisa Casi-Eberhard and Petro Lisowsky (Associate Professor of Accounting & Dean’s Research Scholar at Boston University Questrom School of Business), is devoted to enhancing our understanding of tax-related corporate disclosure practices by measuring the interrelation of numerical values and narrative discussion in financial statements.

This award was presented to Carly Burd in front of 100+ colleagues! Congratulations on this achievement!
