If you want McCluney\u2019s job, you\u2019ll need to get playing.<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"yellow\">Feel the passion.<\/strong> \u201cPeople are inherently very passionate about toys and games, whether you\u2019re a child, an adult who grew up with toys and games, or a parent. You have to be able to understand that passion, but also have that passion yourself for the brand you work on, in order to really be able to do the brand justice and tell that brand\u2019s story to the consumer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"yellow\">Take a shopping trip.<\/strong> \u201cGo see and hear what people say about your products as they walk down the aisle. It\u2019s so gratifying to see a child\u2019s face light up when they pick something off the shelf and they say out loud exactly the message you intended to convey. And that visceral reaction of seeing how utterly excited that child is to be able to take that product home with them\u2014there\u2019s nothing like it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"yellow\">Play well with others.<\/strong> \u201cI\u2019m constantly in my finance counterpart\u2019s office bouncing ideas off of him. It doesn\u2019t really matter what function you work in, we all have a singular goal of growing our businesses, and we all work with very smart people. It\u2019s nice to be able to go to somebody who may not technically be a marketer, but still has great ideas because they live and work in this space, and they\u2019re parents, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"yellow\">Don\u2019t dismiss feedback from business partners.<\/strong> \u201cIt is imperative to listen to people when they give you comments and provide feedback, because ultimately they want you to succeed. Disney spends a lot of time and effort creating these fantastical worlds where their characters live\u2014and the dolls and action figures need to be true to those stories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"yellow\">Have fun.<\/strong> \u201cWith games, it really is an experiential process to understand the game play and what\u2019s important in the game\u2014how you win and all of those emotional feelings. You can\u2019t just look at it flat on the screen or sitting in front of you, you have to engage with it.
