{"id":4703,"date":"2018-05-12T06:23:15","date_gmt":"2018-05-12T10:23:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=4703"},"modified":"2025-01-29T10:23:06","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T15:23:06","slug":"mark-howe","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/profile\/mark-howe\/","title":{"rendered":"Mark Howe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Director:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.howe-lab.org\/\">The Howe Lab<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span>The goal of my laboratory is to identify neural circuit principles responsible for adaptively motivating, selecting, and learning actions in changing environments.<\/span><span>\u00a0 <\/span><span>We focus on the basal ganglia, a set of brain regions implicated in regulating motor and cognitive functions on multiple timescales.<\/span><span>\u00a0 A<\/span><span> range of techniques are employed including two-photon microscopy, fiber photometry, and electrophysiology in behaving mice as they perform tasks in virtual environments.<\/span><span>\u00a0 <\/span><span>These approaches enable us to investigate neural computations at multiple spatial scales, from large scale networks to subcellular compartments of single neurons.<\/span><span>\u00a0 <\/span><span>Basic principles derived from these studies can be applied to better understand neural disorders of the basal ganglia such as Parkinson\u2019s and Huntington\u2019s Disease.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":10897,"template":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/4703"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/profile"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/10897"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/4703\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":5184,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/4703\/revisions\/5184"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=4703"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
