Types of assistance available to doctoral candidates typically include Teaching Fellowships and\/or Research Assistantships. Financial support usually covers tuition remission and a living stipend.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">The Kavita Jain Dissertation Award<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><span>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/academics\/phd\/awards-and-fellowships\/kavitajain\/\">Kavita Jain Dissertation Award<\/a> was established in memory of Kavita Jain, a graduate student in the Clinical Doctoral Program. The award is presented to the student who is judged to have the best dissertation of the year by a committee of faculty in the Department of Psychological &amp; Brain Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">The Clara Mayo Award<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>Clara Mayo was a professor at Boston University from 1964-1981. \u00a0She dedicated her career to the study of nonverbal communication, racism and sexism, and women\u2019s work lives. Upon her death, a memorial fellowship was established in her honor by her family. \u00a0The intent of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/academics\/phd\/awards-and-fellowships\/clara-mayo-award\/\">Claro Mayo Award<\/a> is to help support female psychology doctoral students.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">The Justice, Equity, Diversity &amp; Inclusion (JEDI) Award<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p><span>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/community\/jedi-award\/\">Justice, Equity, Diversity &amp; Inclusion (JEDI) awards<\/a> will support research on the psychology, health and well-being of minoritized individuals or groups. Two of these awards are offered per year to graduate students in the department.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">American Psychological Association (APA) Awards<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<h4>American Psychological Association (APA) Dissertation Research Award ($1000-$5000)<\/h4>\n<p>Applications are available at: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apa.org\/about\/awards\/scidir-dissertre.aspx\">http:\/\/www.apa.org\/about\/awards\/scidir-dissertre.aspx<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Deadline:<\/strong> March 1, 2026<\/p>\n<h4>American Psychological Foundation (APF) Graduate Student Scholarship Award ($1000-$5000)<\/h4>\n<p>Applications are available at: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apa.org\/apf\/funding\/cogdop.aspx\">http:\/\/www.apa.org\/apf\/funding\/cogdop.aspx<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Deadline:<\/strong> 2026 deadline TBA<\/p>\n<p>All applications must be submitted to Dr. Joanne Hebden Palfai, Director of Academic Affairs, in the Department of Psychological &amp; Brain Sciences at least <strong>three\u00a0weeks prior<\/strong> to the application deadline.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Psychological &amp; Brain Sciences attempts to provide financial assistance for all doctoral candidates during their period of full-time study.
