National Research Center for Parents with Disabilities at Risk of Closing
After nearly a decade of research, training, technical assistance, and resource development, the National Research Center for Parents with Disabilities at Brandeis University is at risk of closing following the loss of a critical federal funding opportunity.
The Center’s current federal grant will end on August 31, 2026, and unless funding is restored within the next six weeks, their work will come to an abrupt end.
The National Research Center for Parents with Disabilities is the only federally funded research center dedicated to the needs and experiences of parents with disabilities and their families. Its work includes conducting research, providing training, and translating research into resources for parents, professionals, advocates, and policymakers.
The Center has also worked to close gaps in research about disabled parents of color and has emphasized the importance of including parents with disabilities in its work.
The potential loss of the Center is deeply concerning, and its closure would mean the loss of a unique national source of research, resources, and support for parents and families with disabilities. It also speaks to a broader concern about the future of federal funding opportunities for disability-focused research and programs.
