{"id":69093,"date":"2014-01-15T14:48:58","date_gmt":"2014-01-15T19:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/experts\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=57014"},"modified":"2019-10-30T16:34:49","modified_gmt":"2019-10-30T20:34:49","slug":"adam-sweeting","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/prsocial\/profile\/adam-sweeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Adam Sweeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Adam Sweeting&#8217;s writing and research interests focus on the overlap of natural and cultural forces in American life, with a particular focus on bringing humanities disciplines into conversations about global climate change.\u00a0In 2005, he was co-editor of\u00a0<em>Coming into Contact:\u00a0 New Essays in Ecocriticism\u00a0<\/em>(Athens: University of Georgia Press).<\/p>\n<p>His most recent book,\u00a0<em>Beneath the Second Sun: A Cultural History of Indian Summer<\/em>, explores the numerous ways that Indian summer weather has been experienced and portrayed in poetry, folklore, painting, and the popular imagination.<\/p>\n<p>Adam&#8217;s first book,\u00a0<em>Reading Houses and Building Books: Andrew Jackson Downing and the Architecture of Popular\u00a0Antebellum Fiction<\/em>\u00a0examined the relationship between garden writing, architecture, and fiction in the nineteenth century.<\/p>\n<p>In 2006 he was honored as the Boston University\u00a0United Methodist Church Scholar\/Teacher of the Year<strong>;\u00a0<\/strong>in 2009 he received the Peyton Richter Award for Interdisciplinary Teaching.<\/p>\n<p>Adam has also been active in University governance, having served as Chair of the Boston University Faculty Council from 2010-2012. \u00a0As Chair of the Faculty Council I served as an\u00a0<em>ex officio<\/em>\u00a0member of the BU Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":11144,"template":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/prsocial\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/69093"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/prsocial\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/prsocial\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/profile"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/prsocial\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/11144"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/prsocial\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/69093\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":70910,"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/prsocial\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/profile\/69093\/revisions\/70910"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/prsocial\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=69093"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
