Before joining BU, he was faculty at University College London for four years.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gianluca<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0works in the area of data-driven security, analyzing large datasets to better understand complex malicious online operations and developing mitigation techniques to fight them. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As examples, recently I have been investigating\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the spread of alternative news<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">memes<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0on online social networks,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">raids<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0organized by trolls against other Internet users,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cyberbullying<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ransomware<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">online dating scams<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">money laundering schemes<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0linked to cybercrime,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">malware delivery networks<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">online social network compromises<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
