{"id":58250,"date":"2015-11-10T13:01:34","date_gmt":"2015-11-10T18:01:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/experts\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=58250"},"modified":"2019-10-09T12:12:08","modified_gmt":"2019-10-09T16:12:08","slug":"katharine-lusk","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/prsocial\/profile\/katharine-lusk\/","title":{"rendered":"Katharine Lusk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Katharine Lusk is the founding Executive Director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ioc\/\">Initiative on Cities<\/a> at Boston University where she spearheads new university-wide programs and research, including the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/ioc\/initiative-on-cities-releases-first-national-survey-of-mayoral-priorities\/\">Menino Survey of Mayors<\/a>, student government fellowships, original urban scholarship and multi-stakeholder conferences. She also serves as Senior Personnel\u00a0to the NSF-funded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/research\/scope\/\">Smart City Cloud Platform<\/a> project directed by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/hic\/\">Hariri Institute<\/a>\u00a0and on the Advisory Board of the BU Urban Affairs and City Planning program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Katharine\u00a0was a\u00a0policy advisor to former Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, where she led his work to make Boston the first city in the country to achieve pay equity for women. In addition to creating the Mayor\u2019s Women\u2019s Workforce Council, she authored, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cityofboston.gov\/images_documents\/Boston_Closing%20the%20Wage%20Gap_Interventions%20Report_tcm3-41353.pdf\">Boston: Closing the Wage Gap<\/a>,\u201d\u00a0identifying evidence-based interventions employers can take to close the gender wage gap. An enthusiastic civic entrepreneur, Katharine launched a new capital fund for child care providers, a platform for women small business owners, Women on Main, and the nation\u2019s first mobile City Hall, City Hall to Go.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In 2014, she served as an advisor to Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick\u2019s <em>Successful Women, Successful Families Task Force<\/em>. Prior to entering public service, Katharine\u00a0worked as a\u00a0brand strategist and researcher for Fortune 500 companies. She was most recently the VP\/Director of Branding with McCann Erickson, the global advertising agency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">She received a\u00a0Masters in Public Policy from the\u00a0Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where she was the recipient of the Barbara Jordan Award for Women\u2019s Leadership and the Manuel Carballo Award for her graduate thesis modeling state-run paid family leave for Massachusetts.
