He is also the chair of the department of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/psych\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Psychological &amp; Brain Sciences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He studies the attention networks of the human brain and how the mechanisms of attention shape our perception and our working memory. His research has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/research\/articles\/david-somers-samantha-michalka\/\">uncovered several new brain areas and a new brain network<\/a>.
