{"id":39833,"date":"2013-06-26T15:56:07","date_gmt":"2013-06-26T19:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/experts\/?post_type=profile&#038;p=39833"},"modified":"2022-05-18T14:48:58","modified_gmt":"2022-05-18T18:48:58","slug":"david-starobinski","status":"publish","type":"profile","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/prsocial\/profile\/david-starobinski\/","title":{"rendered":"David Starobinski"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>David Starobinski <span>is a Professor of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/departments\/ece\/\">Electrical and Computer Engineering<\/a><span> and of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/eng\/departments\/se\/\">Systems Engineering<\/a><span> at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/\">Boston University<\/a><span>, with an affiliated appointment in the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cs\">Department of Computer Science<\/a><span>. He is also a Faculty Fellow at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.volpe.dot.gov\/\">U.S. DoT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center<\/a><span>. He received the B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees, all in <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ee.technion.ac.il\/\">Electrical Engineering<\/a><span>, from the<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.technion.ac.il\/\">Technion<\/a><span>-Israel Institute of Technology, in 1993, 1996 and 1999, respectively.\u00a0 In 1996, he was an intern at the research laboratories of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sun.com\/\">Sun Microsystems Corp.<\/a><span>, Mountain View, California. During the academic year 1999-2000, he was a visiting post-doctoral researcher in the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eecs.berkeley.edu\/\">EECS department<\/a><span> at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.berkeley.edu\/\">UC Berkeley<\/a><span>, and during 2007-2008 he was an invited professor at the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/ic.epfl.ch\/\">School of Computer and Communication Sciences<\/a><span> at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epfl.ch\/\">EPFL <\/a><span>(Swiss Institute of Technology in Lausanne). \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Dr. Starobinski received a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/\">US National Science Foundation<\/a><span> (NSF) CAREER award and a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.energy.gov\/\">US Department of Energy (DOE)<\/a><span> Early Career award for his work on Quality of Service engineering and network modeling. He also received a BU ECE Faculty award for outstanding teaching performance, a fellowship for prospective researchers from the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.snf.ch\/\">Swiss National Foundation,<\/a><span> and awards from the Gutwirth Foundation and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.intel.com\/\">Intel Corp.<\/a><span> for excellence in graduate studies. He won best paper awards at the WiOpt 2010 and IEEE CNS 2016 conferences. He was on the Editorial Board of the <\/span>IEEE\/ACM Transactions on Networking<span>.
