Faculty members are eligible to apply to the FIR program if they are full-time at the senior lecturer rank or above and have at least two years of experience at Boston University. The deadline for applying is Friday, March 14, 2025, at 11:59 pm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The FIR program operates under the auspices of the Dean of Students\u2019 Office and Residence Life and works to increase the impact of teaching and research through faculty-undergraduate residential interactions. Established in 1974, the program originally aimed to foster informal student-faculty connections outside the classroom. Today, FIR faculty are uniquely positioned to lead innovative, collaborative efforts that align with Boston University&#8217;s mission. They unlock meaningful, distinctive experiences for undergraduates, key to a BU residential education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The FIR program expands the Boston University classroom by providing a residential experience that is connected, interdisciplinary, innovative, and meaningful. Toward this end, FIRs are in place to:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Serve as role models, resources, and advocates for the students with whom they live and learn;<\/li>\n<li>Cultivate interactions with undergraduates that empower students to grow, develop, and refine their values;<\/li>\n<li>Integrate curricular and co-curricular activities across the University\u2019s schools and programs;<\/li>\n<li>Blaze trails toward the synthesis of knowledge and experience that are provocative, innovative, and collaborative.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">FIR Open Houses are scheduled to take place on the following dates:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>Tuesday, March 4, from 3-5 pm at 610 Beacon Street<\/li>\n<li>Monday, March 24, from 3-5 pm at 115 Bay State Road, Apt. 2<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By attending a FIR open house, prospective FIR applicants can meet current FIRs and Residence Life staff, learn about the FIR program, and tour a FIR apartment. To RSVP for a FIR open house, please<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cognitoforms.com\/BUResidenceLife\/FIROpenHouseRSVPForNewApplicants2025\">fill out this form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To apply for the FIR program, please submit the following to via the application link below:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<li>The<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cognitoforms.com\/BUResidenceLife\/FacultyInResidenceFIRApplication2025\">2025-2026 Faculty-in-Residence application<\/a><\/li>\n<li>A cover letter declaring your interest in the program, addressed to Maggie Sawada, interim associate director of residence life for student and staff development<\/li>\n<li>A curriculum vitae or r\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/li>\n<li>A letter of recommendation and support from the dean of your school\/college sent via email to<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"mailto:reslife@bu.edu\">reslife@bu.edu<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Faculty members selected to participate in the program receive an on-campus apartment, a partial dining plan, programming budget, and, most importantly, the opportunity to fully contribute to the lives of students outside the classroom. Some non-academic and residential policies apply. Most FIR units are one-bedroom apartments in residence halls.
