{"id":66892,"date":"2026-04-08T10:29:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T14:29:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/provost\/?page_id=66892"},"modified":"2026-05-18T14:25:06","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T18:25:06","slug":"overbase-requests","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/provost\/academic-process-policies\/faculty-actions\/overbase-requests\/","title":{"rendered":"Overbase Requests"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Faculty Overbase Rules for Non-Represented Faculty<\/h2>\n<p>Approval of the Provost is required for any exceptions to these guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>During a single Academic Year (September-August), CRC Full-Time, Non-Represented Faculty may earn, in addition to their regular salary:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Up to a total of 3\/9ths of their base salary for the current academic year for additional teaching and\/or summer research.<\/li>\n<li>Summer term courses are counted toward the total 3\/9ths. Additional guidelines below:\n<ul>\n<li>Non-Represented faculty can earn up to 10% of their base salary for teaching a Summer Term course not a part of their regular load covered by their base salary. There is a limit of 2 Summer Term courses per year with a $12,000 overbase limit on each Summer Term course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To seek approval for an overbase payment in excess of the limits (i.e., the 3\/9 total or the 10%\/$12,000 limit per Summer Term course) for CRC faculty, please submit the faculty overbase request template form located <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/provost\/files\/2022\/04\/Overbase-Request-Form-v2.pdf\">here<\/a> and obtain approval prior to processing the payment in SAP. The form should be forwarded to the Faculty Affairs&#8217; Office at <a href=\"mailto:apfac@bu.edu\">apfac@bu.edu<\/a>. If approval is received, please attach that documentation to your SAP form when implementing the payment.<\/p>\n<h2>Faculty Overbase Rules for Represented Faculty<\/h2>\n<p>Approval of the Provost is required for any exceptions to these guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>During a single Academic Year (September-August), CRC Full-Time, Represented Salaried Lecturers and Instructors may earn, in addition to their regular salary:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>up to 10% of their base salary for teaching a Summer Term course not part of their regular load covered by their base salary. Each four (4) credit course has a minimum per credit rate of $2,100, or a minimum summer term rate as determined by the University, whichever is greater.
