Council members include the provost, BU\u2019s academic deans, and selected senior administrators.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n Meeting monthly during the academic year, the Faculty Council<\/a> is BU\u2019<\/span>s elected faculty representative body, an open forum that discusses University policies and activities. Each school and college elects at least one council representative and one alternate.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n Chaired by the associate provost for graduate affairs, the Graduate Academic Council<\/a> meets monthly to consider matters that affect the quality of BU\u2019<\/span>s graduate experience. Membership is set by the provost and normally includes the associate and assistant deans of the schools and colleges with graduate programs, as well as representatives from key University administrative offices.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n The provost\u2019s senior administration, also known as the Provost\u2019s Cabinet<\/a>, meets regularly with the provost to discuss issues and topics that affect the University.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n Chaired by the associate provost for graduate affairs, the Undergraduate Academic Council<\/a> meets monthly to consider matters that affect the quality of BU\u2019s undergraduate experience. Membership is set by the provost and normally includes the associate and assistant deans of the schools and colleges with undergraduate programs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n The University Council<\/a> is a body of faculty and administrators that considers and recommends action on academic matters, including degree requirements, the creation and discontinuation of academic programs, and the development of policies that impact faculty and\/or students.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n From evaluating student concerns to assessing program outcomes, these groups monitor and report on issues crucial to BU\u2019<\/span>s academic experience.<\/p>\n The Advising Network<\/a> connects academic advisors across campus to share information, ideas, and best practices in support of excellent guidance for BU\u2019s undergraduates.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n Assessment Working Groups<\/a> partner with the assistant provost for academic assessment to develop approaches and share knowledge about program learning outcomes assessment across the University. They are a crucial channel of communication between the Provost\u2019s Office and BU\u2019s schools and colleges about expectations and professional development needs and also a means of sharing and responding to assessment results.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n Chaired by the assistant provost for general education and comprising teaching and research faculty appointed by the provost, the BU Hub Council<\/a> conducts ongoing, holistic assessment of the BU Hub through consultation with faculty, students, and alumni who have gone through the program.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n Composed of senior faculty representing the breadth of the University\u2019s schools and colleges, the standing Committee on Academic Program Review<\/a> helps govern the program review process.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n Chaired by the associate provost for undergraduate affairs, the Provost\u2019s Faculty Teaching Awards Committee<\/a> recommends to the president winners of University-wide awards for excellence in teaching, including the Metcalf Cup and Prize, Metcalf Awards, and United Methodist Church Scholar-Teacher of the Year.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n Made up of student representatives from across BU\u2019s 10 undergraduate schools and colleges, the Provost\u2019s Undergraduate Student Advisory Board<\/a> meets monthly with the associate provost for undergraduate affairs to advise on a range of issues affecting the undergraduate academic experience, including student concerns and ideas for improvement.<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\nGovernance<\/h1>\n
