Each year, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/provost\/about\/committees\/provosts-faculty-teaching-awards-committee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Provost&#8217;s Faculty Teaching Awards Committee<\/span> <\/a>selects one Provost&#8217;s Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award winner who receives a stipend of $5,000. The award is conferred at the annual Celebration of Teaching, Research, and Scholarship. Learn more about the committee\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/provost\/about\/committees\/provosts-faculty-teaching-awards-committee\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Nominations<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Students, alumni, staff, and members of the faculty at Boston University are invited to nominate candidates for the Provost\u2019s Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award. Nomination <span>should be completed via the official<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"\/provost\/files\/2025\/09\/Nomination_2026-University-Wide-Teaching-Awards.docx\">nomination form<\/a> and should briefly detail how the candidate meets the criteria for the award. Individuals may nominate only one candidate per year.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>The deadline for submitting nominations for the 2025 Provost&#8217;s Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award is Friday, October 24, 2025. Please email your <a href=\"\/provost\/files\/2025\/09\/Nomination_2026-University-Wide-Teaching-Awards.docx\">nomination form<\/a> to the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Affairs at <a href=\"mailto:apunderg@bu.edu\">apunderg@bu.edu<\/a>. If you have any questions about the Provost&#8217;s Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award, please contact <span>Kristen Vellinga, senior administrative coordinator, at <a href=\"mailto:vellinga@bu.edu\">vellinga@bu.edu<\/a><\/span><span>.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Criteria used to select winners of the Provost\u2019s Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The nominee\u2019s record of ongoing outstanding research, scholarship or creative activity.<\/li>\n<li>The nominee\u2019s excellence as a teacher, as illustrated by:\n<ul>\n<li>Mastery of the subject matter<\/li>\n<li>Implementation of innovative teaching practices<\/li>\n<li>Successful strategies for challenging students at all levels, and engaging them in ambitious learning<\/li>\n<li>Creation of a learning environment that benefits from the diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and knowledge of students and faculty<\/li>\n<li>Thorough, thoughtful evaluation of student work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The nominee\u2019s dedication and contributions to the art and science of learning, which may be evidenced by:\n<ul>\n<li>Range of courses taught<\/li>\n<li>New curriculum and course development<\/li>\n<li>Pedagogical development or innovation<\/li>\n<li>Service on university, school\/college, or departmental curriculum committees<\/li>\n<li>Participation in faculty learning communities around pedagogical or curricular development<\/li>\n<li>Pedagogy\/teaching research<\/li>\n<li>Proposals for funding and funded grants for curricular or pedagogical development; mentoring graduate students or new faculty members in course and pedagogical development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>To be eligible, a faculty member must:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Have held a full-time, continuing appointment on the teaching faculty for six semesters or more;<\/li>\n<li>Be a current member of the Boston University faculty;<\/li>\n<li>Not be currently under review for promotion or tenure;<\/li>\n<li>Be teaching during the spring semester of the current year;<\/li>\n<li>Not be a previous winner of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/provost\/awards-publications\/award-opportunities\/university-wide-teaching-awards\/boston-university-provosts-scholar-teacher-of-the-year-award\/boston-university-provosts-scholar-teacher-of-the-year-award-past-awardees\/\">Provost\u2019s Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award<\/a> or of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/provost\/awards-publications\/award-opportunities\/past-awardees\/\">United Methodist Church Scholar\/Teacher of the Year Award<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lecturers are eligible.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/provost\/awards-publications\/award-opportunities\/university-wide-teaching-awards\/boston-university-provosts-scholar-teacher-of-the-year-award\/boston-university-provosts-scholar-teacher-of-the-year-award-past-awardees\/\">Past Awardees<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About the Award Boston University\u2019s Provost\u2019s Scholar-Teacher of the Year Award recognizes outstanding scholars who excel as teachers inside and outside the classroom and who contribute to the art and science of teaching and learning.
