A Talk with Bill Easterling: The Geosciences Directorate at the National Science Foundation (GEO) seeks to improve our understanding of the physical global environment and the processes that affect its behavior. The Directorate provides 64% of all federal funding for academic research in the atmospheric, earth, ocean, and polar sciences, helping deepen our knowledge of ecosystems and better prepare society to respond to disruptive natural disasters. GEO is also the lead directorate for Navigating the Arctic, one of NSF’s 10 Big Ideas, and is involved in several others
