GMS OPDPA Professional Development Series: Publish or Perish: Writing a Research Paper
- Starts: 2:00 pm on Tuesday, November 5, 2013
- Ends: 4:00 pm on Tuesday, November 5, 2013
This two-hour interactive power point lecture is aimed at novices as well as more experienced writers, including graduate students, postdocs, technicians or anyone who is planning to publish a research paper in a peer-reviewed journal.
Although there is no single way to write a research paper, there are common approaches and “trade secrets” that will be discussed. The topics include:
• What amounts to a good research publication and what are the reasons to write it?
• What parts comprise a typical research paper and what is the best order to approach them?
• Dos and don’ts in paper writing.
• Authorship, acknowledgements and other potentially sensitive issues.
• What happens to your paper after it is submitted to a journal?
• How to handle reviewers’ critique?
The discussion proceeds at a fast pace, yet questions both during and after it are very welcome.
