Clare Boothe Luce Scholarships

Clare Boothe Luce (1903–1987) was an American playwright, editor, journalist, ambassador, and one of the first women elected to congress. While ambitious about her own career, Mrs. Luce was also eager to encourage women to reach their full professional potential and to explore careers where women have not always been represented. Mrs. Luce created the scholarship in order to urge women to enter, study, graduate, and teach in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics. Under the terms of her will, she chose to establish a legacy that would benefit current and future generations of women with talent and ambition in areas where they continue to be severely underrepresented—the sciences and engineering.
