Actions Taken by the University Council During the Fall 2022 Semester
From Dr. Jean Morrison, University Provost and Chief Academic Officer
The Boston University Council held four meetings during the fall 2022 semester on September 13, October 18, November 15, and December 13. At these meetings, the council voted to approve the following policies, also available on the University Council website:
- Revision to Faculty Handbook Policy on Sabbaticals and Leaves of Absence including Junior Scholar Leave – clarifies that schools and colleges may offer sabbatical leave to faculty members without standard professorial titles under terms no more generous than those applicable to faculty members with such titles.
- Sexual Misconduct Hiring Disclosure Policy – provides a mechanism for the University to determine whether a candidate for a faculty or staff position has been found responsible for sexual misconduct by a current or past employer.
- Policy on Responding to Employer Inquiries Regarding Sexual Misconduct – provides a mechanism for the University, acting through the Equal Opportunity Office, to respond to questions from hiring institutions of whether a candidate for employment was found responsible for violating BU’s policies prohibiting sexual misconduct.
The council also voted during the fall 2022 semester to approve the following degree and certificate programs:
- EdM in Education for Equity & Social Justice (Wheelock)
- Graduate Certificate in World Language Education – Online (Wheelock)
- Graduate Certificate in World Language Education – Residential (Wheelock)
President Brown has concurred with these actions, which officially brings them into effect.
Finally, the council received the provost’s annual report on institutional diversity, which may be accessed on the University Council website (Kerberos protected).
We are grateful to the members of the University Council for their thoughtful and diligent work throughout the past semester.
