Launch of National Search for New Associate Provost for Community & Inclusion

Last December, I shared news that we would soon be launching a national search for an associate provost for community and inclusion at Boston University. I am pleased to announce the search is now underway and a committee in place to oversee this process. A full job description is on the Provost’s Office website; while this is a national search, we invite nominations and applications, as well, from within the BU community. Interested candidates should send a cover letter and CV to cisearch@bu.edu for consideration.

It is our expectation that the associate provost for community and inclusion will be a dynamic, collaborative leader of national stature with a strong record of managing change and developing initiatives that advance diversity, equity, access, and inclusion. They will be expected to help guide BU’s efforts to ensure inclusive excellence of faculty and academic appointees, nurture a positive campus climate, and enhance diversity and inclusion within the academic program. They will also provide leadership in implementing two essential pillars of BU’s 2030 strategic plan – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and Community – Big Yet Small – as we continue to enhance the environment and opportunities we afford all members of our community.

It is our hope to name an associate provost for community and inclusion by the close of the spring 2022 semester and to have that individual in place by the summer term or fall semester. I want to give special thanks to Karin Firoza, director of special projects for diversity and inclusion, who has graciously agreed to serve as associate provost ad interim for community and inclusion during this period of transition. I would also like to thank the members of our search committee (listed below), and specifically College of Fine Arts Dean Harvey Young, who is serving as chair, for their assistance with this important endeavor.
