The jets of blazars are extremely energetic and highly variable
both optically and in polarization on timescales of minutes to days. The
polarization is thought to be due to the jets' magnetic field, which could
be ascertained with long-term monitoring. The optical polarimeter of PRISM
can be used to measure the brightness, polarization, and position angle
of the jets with acceptable time resolution. More can be found on Boston
University blazar research here. |
