Boston University’s Annual Report

February 5, 2024

Dear Members of the Boston University Community,

I am delighted to share the Boston University 2023 Annual Report with you.

Our momentum remains strong during this exciting period at BU. In July, Dr. Melissa L. Gilliam will assume office as our 11th president. More details about the celebrations scheduled for next fall to mark this historic event will be shared soon.

As you review this year’s report, I trust that you will take great pride in the numerous success stories. Our faculty received a record $645.6 million in sponsored research awards. We broadened support for our students through scholarships and a new LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center and strengthened the Newbury Center for first-generation students. Additionally, we saw the iconic Center for Computing & Data Sciences quickly evolve into a vibrant hub for campus activity.

Boston University is engaged in transformative, interdisciplinary teaching and learning that has the potential to solve some of our most important challenges.

The achievements highlighted in the Annual Report could not have unfolded without the unwavering support, dedication, and creativity of the entire community.

With gratitude and warm regards,

Kenneth W. Freeman
President Ad Interim
