The course, taught by Dr. Aaron Ahlstrom, focuses on the community and architectural histories of Charlestown, a neighborhood within Boston. As part of the class, students go on site visits, applying and practicing their taught skills on site, such a building identification on instructor-led neighborhood walks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/preservation\/files\/2023\/11\/IMG_6475-477x636.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14687\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/preservation\/files\/2023\/11\/IMG_6475-477x636.jpg 477w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/preservation\/files\/2023\/11\/IMG_6475-rotated.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/preservation\/files\/2023\/11\/IMG_6475-450x600.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In these visits, the class also meets with community members and experts, such as a tour with <span>Gretchen Pineo, of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palinc.com\">Public Archaeology Laboratory, Inc.<\/a><\/span>, Pawtucket, Rhode Island (above). <span>They were also able to tour Memorial Hall in Charlestown with some of the board members (below).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/preservation\/files\/2023\/11\/IMG_6467-477x636.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14684\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/preservation\/files\/2023\/11\/IMG_6467-477x636.jpg 477w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/preservation\/files\/2023\/11\/IMG_6467-rotated.jpg 480w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/preservation\/files\/2023\/11\/IMG_6467-450x600.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The class was able to complete hands-on primary source research with the <a href=\"https:\/\/archives.boston.gov\">City of Boston Archives<\/a>\u00a0in <span>West Roxbury, Massachusetts (below).
