Connor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Areas of Specialization:<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>Comparative Politics; International Relations; Soviet and Post-Soviet Politics<\/p>\n<p>Walter Connor (1942-2022) authored or co-authored\/edited seven books \u2014 among them:<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>The Accidental Proletariat<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>(1991),<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>The Polish Road from Socialism<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>(1993), and<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Tattered Banners: Labor, Conflict and Corporatism in Post Communist Russia<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>(1996). Professor Connor wrote a host of scholarly articles and book chapters on Russian and Eastern European politics and society. On the University of Michigan faculty 1968-76, he then served as Director of Soviet and East European Studies at the Foreign Service Institute at the US State Department from 1976 to 1984.
