{"id":8460,"date":"2020-09-25T13:16:35","date_gmt":"2020-09-25T17:16:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/polisci\/?page_id=8460"},"modified":"2026-03-05T16:03:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T21:03:17","slug":"grad-admissions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/polisci\/admissions\/grad-admissions\/","title":{"rendered":"PhD Admissions"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>How to Apply<\/h2>\n<p>Applicants to the graduate program should use <a href=\"https:\/\/bu-grs.cas.myliaison.com\/applicant-ux\/#\/login\"><strong>the online application<\/strong><\/a>, on the Graduate School site.The program is accepting applications for the 2026-27 academic year.\u00a0Applications are for Fall 2026 admissions are due 12\/15\/25.<\/p>\n<p>In keeping with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/admissions\/phd-mfa\/apply\/\">policy of BU\u2019s Graduate School of Arts &amp; Sciences<\/a>, the Department of Political Science practices holistic admission, considering all components of a Ph.D. application for every applicant. We are aware that the COVID-19 pandemic may have negatively affected some applicants\u2019 Spring 2020 grades, and others may have opted for a modified grading option (e.g., pass\/fail). We will evaluate applications with these circumstances in mind. Applicants are encouraged to explain any unusual personal circumstances either in their personal statement or in a separate document uploaded with the application.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants are expected to hold a B.A., preferably in political science or in a related discipline such as economics, philosophy, sociology, international relations or history. Depending on their qualifications, applicants from other disciplines will also be considered.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bu_collapsible_container \" aria-live=\"polite\" data-customize-animation=\"false\"><h3 class=\"bu_collapsible\" aria-expanded=\"false\"tabindex=\"0\" role=\"button\">Application Requirements<\/h3><div class=\"bu_collapsible_section\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n<p>We require applicants to submit the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/bu-grs.liaisoncas.com\/applicant-ux\/#\/login\">Online Application Form<\/a><\/li>\n<li>All relevant transcripts \u2013 unofficial copies (official transcripts are only needed for students who have accepted an admission offer)<\/li>\n<li>Three letters of recommendation<\/li>\n<li>Statement outlining plans for graduate study<\/li>\n<li>Academic writing sample<\/li>\n<li>A $95 application fee must be paid in order for your application to be considered complete. This fee is non-refundable. Information on fee waivers for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/admissions\/ma-ms\/apply\/fee-waiver\/\">MA<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bu.edu\/cas\/admissions\/phd-mfa\/apply\/fee-waiver\/\">PhD<\/a> applicants is available on the Graduate School website. Please do not submit the application until you have received a decision regarding your fee waiver application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul><\/ul>\n<p>GRE scores are optional for admission into the program.
