Ph.D. Candidate

Olivia received her BA in Political Science and Anthropology from Union College (Schenectady, NY) in 2018 and entered the Ph.D. program at BU. Her research is supported by the National Science Foundation, the American Political Science Association, and the U.S Fulbright Program. Olivia’s research investigates the political, social, and economic webs that shape refugee integration experiences on the ground in Southern European countries. Her dissertation explores refugees’ lived experiences, examining the influence of state integrative services on their migration trajectories in Spain, Italy, and Germany. Olivia analyzes how refugees’ social networks inform their decision-making in whether they choose to stay in their host country or move elsewhere in search of secure and sustainable resettlement. Her exploration of refugees’ lived experiences helps us assess integration, understand the limitations of state integrative services, and revise current frameworks to reflect reality better.
