Fall Orientation

At the beginning of Fall Semester, the department will have an Orientation Meeting at which point new students will have an opportunity to meet the Director of Graduate Studies and Graduate Program Coordinator to review graduate program requirements and procedures.

The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences holds a separate half-day Fall orientation session, typically the afternoon of the Thursday before classes start, with general information on being a graduate student at BU, including information on safety, health insurance and services, and library resources.

The week before classes start, incoming Ph.D. students are required to participate in the Social Science Math Boot Camp. This not-for-credit, ungraded course is a math refresher intended to prepare students for PO 841: Quantitative Research Methods and other required courses in the methods sequence.
