Where Is Energy Storage Headed Workshop Series: Interfacial Phenomena in Electrochemical Systems
- Starts: 12:00 pm on Friday, January 28, 2022
- Ends: 1:30 pm on Friday, January 28, 2022
Hosted by the Boston University Institute for Sustainable Energy, this series of four virtual workshops on research and opportunities in the field of energy storage emphasizes the overarching challenges facing electrochemical systems for applications to transportation and grid-level storage. The goal of the workshops is to provide a forum to discuss common problems and brainstorm approaches to overcome these problems across electrochemical systems such as batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers, and capacitors. The workshops will bring together academic researchers and industry for the conversation to consider the problem from multiple angles.
Co-sponsored by the Boston University College of Engineering and the Division of Materials Science & Engineering.
Workshop 2: Interfacial Phenomena in Electrochemical Systems
Complex, multiphase interfaces are central to electrochemical systems’ performance and longevity. Transport through interfaces and reactions at interfaces are critical to batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers, and more. Their dynamic nature combined with the complex chemistry that occurs at interfaces has made the understanding and design of interfaces for electrochemical systems especially challenging. In this workshop, we will discuss the formation of interfaces and interphases and their effects on performance. The discussion will include advances in understanding the physical phenomena at interfaces and the advances that are needed to design better interfaces.
