Research on Tap: Pandemic Preparedness and Response

  • Starts: 4:00 pm on Wednesday, September 22, 2021
  • Ends: 6:00 pm on Wednesday, September 22, 2021
As the world continues to battle COVID and its variants, researchers and policy makers are already preparing for the next pandemic. Climate change, population growth, economic and ecological injustice, and microbial evolution are all driving the narrative of emerging infectious diseases—giving rise to new pathogens and more opportunities for spillover into humans. The root causes of pandemics are many, and our efforts to combat them must be similarly multifaceted. At BU, the new Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases Policy & Research (CEID) was founded in May 2021 to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration around this critical problem—and build resilience against future pandemics. This Research on Tap will bring together BU faculty from across schools and colleges who are studying the impact of emerging infectious diseases around the globe and proposing solutions. Join us to hear from data scientists, public health experts, clinicians, engineers, economists, and more about research being done to understand, predict, prepare, and bounce back from future threats.
Location:
Kilachand Center Colloquium Room, 610 Commonwealth Ave (This event may move to virtual if COVID protocols require.)
