A Conflict of Commitment may also exist when a staff member has an external financial interest that gives rise to an actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest. Examples include using University work hours to conduct business for another\u00a0employer, or\u00a0conducting a personal business during\u00a0University\u00a0work hours.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134245417&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559685&quot;:360,&quot;335559739&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Corporate Opportunities\u00a0also constitute\u00a0a Conflict of Commitment. A Corporate Opportunity is an opportunity a\u00a0University\u00a0employee takes for themselves that is discovered\u00a0through the use of\u00a0University\u00a0property, information, or position. Employees owe a duty to the University to advance its legitimate interests whenever possible and,\u00a0pursuant to\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/policies\/code-of-ethical-conduct-2\/\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Code of Ethical Conduct<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, employees are prohibited from taking Corporate Opportunities without the prior written consent of the University.
