Boston Marathon<\/a> is an annual tradition and this year\u2019s race is expected to draw a great deal of interest, with a large number of spectators and runners taking part in the event. As a spectator, you should expect to see a significant presence of uniformed and plain clothed police officers along the entire marathon route. At various points along the course spectators may be asked to pass through security checkpoints to access viewing areas. At these checkpoints, law enforcement or security officers will be inspecting bags and other items being carried. Spectators should not to carry any of the following items:
\n\u2022 Weapons of any kind
\n\u2022 Backpacks or similar over the shoulder bags
\n\u2022 Coolers
\n\u2022 Suitcases
\n\u2022 Fireworks, fuels or explosives
\n\u2022 Glass containers or cans
\n\u2022 Any containers capable of carrying more than 1 liter of liquid
\n\u2022 Handbags larger than 12\u201dx12\u201dx6\u201d
\n\u2022 Large blankets \/ sleeping bags
\n\u2022 Any kind of mask or costume
\n\u2022 Props including sporting equipment or military gear
\nMarathon Day in Boston is always an exciting time of the year and an event which defines the Boston experience. I encourage you to enjoy the race and surrounding festivities, but I want to remind you that it is illegal to consume alcohol in any public place. Alcohol ordinances and drug laws will be strictly enforced by the police along the course.
\nOn behalf of the Boston University Police Department and all the public safety agencies supporting the Boston Marathon, I encourage everyone to participate in our \u201cSee Something, Say Something\u201d campaign by being aware and attentive to your surroundings and to immediately report suspicious activities to the police. If you encounter a suspicious article, do not touch or move the article and quickly move away from the area.
