He earned his PhD at the University of Antwerp, developing path-integral methods for Wigner distributions and quantum corrections to Boltzmann\u2019s equation.<img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/physics\/files\/2019\/11\/driesbb-574x636.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"138\" height=\"153\" class=\"wp-image-4487 alignright\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/physics\/files\/2019\/11\/driesbb-574x636.jpg 574w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/physics\/files\/2019\/11\/driesbb-924x1024.jpg 924w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/physics\/files\/2019\/11\/driesbb-768x851.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/physics\/files\/2019\/11\/driesbb-542x600.jpg 542w, https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/physics\/files\/2019\/11\/driesbb.jpg 1083w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 138px) 100vw, 138px\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>After postdoctoral work at Boston University and Harvard University, he joined the faculty at New York University and became an associate research scientist at the Flatiron Institute in 2020. In 2026, he rejoined Boston University as a faculty member in the quantum condensed matter theory group. His research focuses on non-equilibrium many-body systems, quantum algorithms, optimal control, and classical simulation of quantum systems. He is a 2023 Alfred P. Sloan Fellow in Phy<span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">sics.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bu.edu\/physics\/profile\/nikola-maksimovic\/\"><b>Nikola Maksimovic<\/b><\/a>\u00a0is an experimental condensed matter physicist interested in studying the behavior of many-body quantum systems. He completed his PhD in physics at University of California Berkeley for which he was awarded the Jackson C.
