Leptoquarks are hypothetical particles predicted by some Beyond the Standard Model theories to describe the similarity between the quark and lepton sectors of the Standard Model. Leptoquarks could also explain certain anomalies seen in B-meson decays. In this talk I will describe the status of a search for leptoquarks with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). This search targets resonant production of leptoquarks using the intrinsic lepton content of the proton, a novel production mode for LHC leptoquark searches. I will present my work on this search, which targets the muon + jet final state, and discuss the future work necessary for the analysis. I will also discuss my contributions towards upgrading the ATLAS muon system readout and trigger electronics for the High-Luminosity LHC.
