1. Drop the "s" from plurals. Search for "Chorale" instead of "Chorales"
2. For composers, arrangers, and editors, give only a last name ("Bach" instead of "Bach, J. S."). This may find results you didn't intend (e.g., music by "Bach, C. P. E.") but will also keep you from suffering from subtle differences in spelling or punctuation. For instance, "Bach, J. S." will find results, but "Bach, JS." will not.
3. A lot of music does not have a known copyright date, so searching for any date range can severely limit your results, even when there are many pieces from that era (whose copyright dates just aren't known).
